I was wondering if I could speak to the doctors who work at the clinics here or anyone who has had medical practice. I’ve been studying medical treatment myself and I thought it would be a good idea to become acquainted with everyone.

[He knows it’s been a while since he last spoke to Adele about this but it’s better late than never, right? The mouse cheeps again] I know, I know, just a minute… Oh! Also, there was one particular doctor that was recommended I speak with about something… Doctor Law, I believe his name was. So it’s important I talk to him too, if at all possible.

Later in the day, Sion will be out in the village, mainly in the clinic and library. He won’t stay long in the main clinic, but just to take a look at the main schedule Adele once told him about.

After that, he’ll head to the library. If you spot him there, you’ll be able to notice that he has three mice on his person, quite literally. They aren’t real mice, but they definitely appear to be real. There’s a white one, which sits atop his head, a black one which is on his shoulder and a brown one which is on his opposite shoulder. It seems odd but this is totally normal for him. He’s picking out a bedtime story for them, you see. Still totally normal for him. They like it a lot when he reads plays to them okay.]

1805? [Well now that was quite a long time ago wasn't it?] I see... well, it's a pleasure to meet you, Doctor Maturin. My name is Sion. [He wants to ask questions about the time period he's from, but he holds back. They can talk about that later.]

How long did you study to become a physician? Do you continue to study here? Since knowledge in the medical field has broadened since that time period and all.

I have picked my studies back up, yes. I attended school for many years and was an apprentice in a hospital in Paris. Though, really, any proper physician is always learning. His patients teach him.

That is very true. [It's basically how Sion's medical experience started, with his patient teaching him. Working on a bullet wound with no prior practice or anything.] What was it like to work as an apprentice in Paris?

Incredible. I was set to work almost immediately upon their cadavers. My masters were extraordinary.

I can imagine they were. [Sion's pretty impressed and interested in the fact it didn't take him long to work on their cadavers. Back home in the city of No.6, all dead bodies were taken by the city and handled by them. It was rare, if it ever happened, when an ordinary doctor was allowed to even inspect and do an autopsy on even a mutilated corpse.]

What was it like to work on their cadavers? Were you set to work on anything else?

Oh--no, I'm okay, thank you. I just wanted to take a look at the schedule. I was told that I should so that I can catch any of the doctors while they're on their own shifts if I ever wanted to meet them. [ ... ] Are you one of them?

[He blinks but quickly gives a slight bow in return. If it's part of her custom he doesn't want to show disrespect] My name is Sion. It's a pleasure to meet you, Mia.

First, it's a pleasure to finally meet you, Dr. Law. [How long had he been delaying this? Hmmm]

As the head of the clinic, I was wondering what your policy was on allowing people to work there. I'd like to offer my assistance as a doctor.

I am very open to anyone who wants to join us, Sion. What kind of experience and training do you have? [And here we go into the job interview] Traditional medicine, healing magic...?

[Are you ready for the best job interview, Law?] Traditional medicine. I haven't taken the opportunity yet to learn the healing magic that's native to Luceti. [Books are more his thing anyway.]

I've had no professional training, at least nothing like medical school training. I'm self taught in medical treatment. What I was able to learn in school wasn't much, minor details of bodily functions, neuropsychology and cells. After a short time I wasn't allowed an education so I could only study on and off and firsthand experiences came starting when I was twelve. I've cleaned and stitched a bullet wound before and I've attended to more minor cases that required simple cleaning and dressing of the wounds. Here in Luceti, I've spent nearly a year now studying a bit more thoroughly and I was a doctor on one of the previous missions.

It's very nice to meet you, Doctor Mizuno. My name is Sion. [For a moment, he tries to think back to the names of the doctors Adele told him of but he can't remember if she was one of them. OH WELL. He's still happy to meet her.] How long have you been a doctor, Miss Mizuno?

I've served as a doctor here in Luceti for nearly two years. Back home, I was new to the profession after completing medical school.

So you already have quite a bit under your belt. What kind of experiences have you had in the medical field itself? Here and back in your own world.

I consider myself still learning, but I was practicing as a surgeon. Here, I've encountered things that would never have been seen in my world. It's making me learn new things all the time.
